Day 56

Some macro shots of brick walls today. I enjoy these images but I don’t think I would have been able to build an interesting project around them.

Day 55

A project I did last year focused on the textures of a wall in the student house I was living at the time the wall had a bubbling texture caused by an idiot landlord who painted straight onto concrete outside the kitchen. Returning to my student house in Portsmouth today I decided to photograph the chipping paintwork in this student house.

Day 54

Just some texture today. One of things I enjoy doing is taking a photograph of a rather boring subject and through the photographing of the object and editing on Photoshop making it into a completely different, interesting image. When I was doing my brick walls photograph one of the questions I was asked repeatedly was “Is it just brick walls you’re photographing?” yes I was just photographing brick walls as I knew that plastered walls would be uninteresting in comparison. Today I took three photographs of a plastered brick wall and edited it on Photoshop. I knew I could make a photograph of a plastered wall interesting but only with the added elements of Photoshop edits and layers.

Day 53 – Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgic

Some photographs of the christening I went to today.

I took some portraits for my boyfriends family (It was his nephew that was getting christened) but I also took some photographs for myself of the church. I feel this fits in to the nostalgia theme because although I have never been religious I went to church occasionally with my great grandparents when I was younger and I was christened at age five or six. I remember being asked whether I wanted to be christened and without knowing what it was about I said I did want to be christened because all of my friends were christened. That probably made my grandparents and mother happy and I’m OK with that. I have not been to church for a long time and the times I have, since I was too young to remember, have been funerals and possibly a wedding. As an atheist (sometimes bordering on anti-theist) going to church for me has always been somewhat of an interesting experience, I am torn between thinking of church and religion as a potential force for good and a community space for older generations and my head telling me its all rubbish and a method of control that’s holding back a thirst for knowledge in many.

Day 52

A photograph today of my graduation present to myself. My friend had a stall at our town carnival today selling cheap Pandora style bracelets. I have always loved the Pandora bracelets being a not girly girl but still a visually inspired one. This is not the first time she has sold these type of bracelets and I have had one previously but unfortunately it fell off in Asda and I never saw it again. This time she had less choice of beads but I still managed to find six that I really liked and arrange them to make in my opinion a pleasing bracelet.

Day 51

Another photograph from my portfolio today. This is a particularly sad one for me for reasons not completely obvious in the image. This image was part of a project I did looking at life and death which helped me to deal with the death of my great Grandparents. I was incredibly lucky to have known them but dealing with death as an athiest is an incredibly painful thing. Although I get my taste in art from looking at paintings done by my Fathers, Father it was my Mothers, Mothers, Father that first taught me how to paint and gave me one of his own paintings. He was the person who first inspired me to love art. As part of this project I visited the graveyard where they are buried and photographed other graves in the beautiful graveyard. The Christmas baubles in this image were tied to a tree in the graveyard.

Day 50

Today another one of the photographs from my portfolio. This one is from my 2nd year of A-Levels and I am drawn to it because of the intense concentration of detail  in the middle of the photograph.

Day 49

Over the next few days I am going to be very busy so I have decided to upload one photo a day from my portfolio, I am looking forward to showing some of my favourite photographs I have taken over the years.

Below is my first choice of a photograph from my portfolio because it is one of my earliest and in my opinion one of the most interesting. I always strive for both interesting and aesthetically pleasing of course however I always prefer to take and edit an interesting photograph than simply a pretty one that inspires no thought.

Day 48 – Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable

When I first saw this challenge I was struck with the desire to photograph Salt and Pepper Pots… Then it struck me that I didn’t have any so instead I decided to upload a photograph that I took on Pen Y Fan.

Day 47

Not my photograph today, just my editing and some advertising for my Fathers book. He bought the image and all he hired me to do was to title and layout all the items on the book cover that he wanted me to. I am regularly asked to re-title and re-size the covers as I was today. These are the edits I completed today
